FAQ

Will I learn about contracts, receiving payment and other bureaucratic issues involved in being a private teachers?
No, you will not. Our course will focus solely on the pedagogical aspects of teaching privately.

Is this course going to teach me how to be a private teacher?
We feel being a private teacher is something very complex and there is only so much we can do in eight hours.

How is this course different?
Our course is going to have a syllabus that is tailored to its participants. If there is something that you particularly struggle with in your lessons, we are going to help you with that. Something that private teachers often complain about is the feeling of isolation and lack of feedback from another ELT professional. In our course, we will watch a snippet of your lesson and give you feedback. After that, you will think of an action plan, which you will also receive feedback on.

Is this course going to teach me how to be an online private teacher?
Despite being an online course, this course will not focus on online teaching, but on being a private teacher as a whole. There are some free, high-quality courses if you are more interested in learning more about teaching online, such as this one from Future Learn.

Will I learn marketing techniques and how to sell my services as a private teacher?
We are teacher trainers with more than 15 years of experience in ELT and even though we sell our services as freelance trainers, we do not feel qualified to teach you about marketing.

How will this course help me with student retention?
A key factor for any private teacher is student retention. In our course, we approach this topic from a pedagogical point of view. If your lessons are engaging and students see results, they are more likely to continue studying with you and to refer you to their friends. We often see private teachers who are very good at selling their services, but students cancel after a short amount of time. Our course is going to help you improve the quality of your lessons by providing you with strong theoretical foundations and practical tips.
